The international drawing contest "Paint the Cathedral of Burgos" is organized by the Foundation VIII Centenary of the Cathedral. Burgos 2021 and the Queen Sofía International Children's Art Museum of the Gabarron Foundation.
On July 20, 2021, the 800th anniversary of the laying of the first stone in Burgos Cathedral will be celebrated and this is why the Foundation for the VIII Centenary of the Cathedral was created. Burgos 2021, whose Honorary Presidency is held by Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain. This project, sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Culture and declared an event of Exceptional Public Interest, arose with the aim of uniting the city of Burgos around the celebration of this event, through the development of various cultural and social projects over the next few years, and informing about them through the website www.catedraldeburgos2021.es
Together with the Cathedral, the Foundation focuses its attention on a series of projects of vital importance to the cultural dimension of Burgos and its province; on the one hand, the Atapuerca sites, the Way of Saint James and the Las Loras Geopark, recognised by UNESCO, and on the other, the Spanish language, the Way of El Cid and the Consulate of the Sea.
The Queen Sofía International Children's Art Museum of the Gabarron Foundation was established on November 7, 2002, under the Honorary Presidency of H.M. Queen Sofía, as the first children's art museum with a permanent home in Spain. It houses, guards, studies and exhibits a very rich legacy, which today exceeds 60,000 works of children's art, constituting an exceptional Gallery, a mosaic of colours on the history of humanity from the clean viewpoint of children from more than 90 countries.
The objectives of the Queen Sofía International Children's Art Museum are the defence of children's rights, the promotion of their human formation through art and the defence of children's values through drawing, painting and creativity.
